Friday Morning Tiger Scattershooting March 2nd

LSU starts spring football practice for the first time in 4 years without Jordan Jefferson at the helm. Whew!

  • A question on many fans minds continues to be if Zach Mettenberger is so good, why didn’t he start last year? I guess we will find out soon.
  • LSU is planning on adding 6,940 seats which would increase Tiger Stadium’s capacity to nearly 99,500, making it the third-largest stadium in the SEC behind Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium (102,455) and Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium (101,821).
  • LSU’s basketball team will not participate in March Madness for the 3rd straight year. The Tigers would have to win the SEC tournament which will not happen unless Kentucky has a collapse.
  • Trent Johnson has improved the Tigers, but if Kentucky is your gauge for being the best, there is a large gap between the 2 teams.
  • LSU will graduate Storm Warren, Malcolm White and Chris Bass. All will be missed, but Warren is the only major contributor of the 3.
  • Malcolm White was a classic case of a player looking like Tarzan, but plays more like Jane.
  • The concern for LSU basketball fans is that Trent Johnson doesn’t have any big time recruits coming in next year even though he has several scholarships to offer. Losing Ricardo Gathers to Baylor might eventually cost Johnson his job. I think the improvement of the years team will buy Johnson one more year of job security.
  • I don’t know what to make up LSU’s baseball team losing 2 of 3 to Appalachian St. Did this ever happen to Skip Bertman? I trust Manieri will turn this around.
  • One thing that has gone unnoticed is that Nikki Caldwell has done a great job coaching the Lady Tigers basketball team. Even after losing point guard Destini Hughes to a knee injury, the Lady Tigers were able to finish 4th in the SEC and are a lock to play in the NCAA tourney. Great job Coach Caldwell.
  • Wondering whatever  happened to one of my favorite LSU basketball players Vernell Singleton? Hope he is well.
