Aaron Nola shut down my alma mater ULM (Northeast La.) 4-1 to advance LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional. The Tigers face the Beavers of Oregon St. tonight 7:00 CT at Alex Box Stadium.
Nola pitched eight innings, allowed one run on four hits, struck out a career-high 10 batters, and walked one before being relived by Chris Cotton who pitched a perfect 9th inning.
The Lady Tigers Softball team will have to run the gauntlet to make it to the WCWS final. After losing a hard fought game 4-1 to top seeded California, the Lady Tiger have to defeat UCF, the California, and the Oklahoma twice to make it to the championship game.
LSU Football picked up a huge commitment yesterday in Frank Herron (DE, 6’5″, 235) from Memphis, TN. The four-star strong-side defensive end was highly recruited by several top programs including Arkansas, Auburn, Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC. Herron selected LSU over Mississippi State.
Les Miles is on fire after a disappointing recruiting season this past year. The verbal from Herron gives LSU 14 commitments for 2013, and he is the Tigers’ third four-star commitment in the last 10 days, behind quarterback Hayden Rettig and offensive tackle Ethan Pocic.
Even more exciting than that Herron is the third four-star recruit in the last two weeks to come from outside Louisiana. Sure, Memphis is much closer than Rettig’s hometown of Los Angeles or Pocic’s Lemont, Ill., but the exposure and notoriety of LSU’s run to the BCS Championship Game seems like it’s paying dividends on the national recruiting scene.
